Look at Poker Tools - Not Rules (pokerrailbird.com) and let us know your thoughts. As poker is situational, we don't put a lot of stock into rules, instead we focus on poker tools. I have yet to see a rule in business or poker that would help me make the best decision. Pokerrailbird is all about making the best decision in a given situation, as can possibly be made. We can’t control the outcome of that decision, but we can control the process by which we arrive at those decisions, and rules play no part in it. I would like to hear some comments regarding poker rules/poker tools.

Thanks for your question. As with anything, rules have their place. If you were a brand new player and knew nothing about poker, I would give you a list of rules to play by initially. Rules like starting hands, when to raise, call, fold, etc. But, once you gained some poker knowledge, I would tell you that poker is situational, and that no rule can be applied in every situation. This is why we all need to understand the math of poker, its psychological aspects, tells, and all the other elements of the game. Knowledge and the ability to use it is the key to winning, not a set of strict rules.

I was playing at the Beau Rivage in Biloxi MS a few weeks ago. I was dealt 8-3 two consecutive hands. I told the dealer, Mark, if you deal me 8-3 the again, I'm going to play it. He did, and I called a $15 pre flop raise. The flop came 3-8-3, lol. I don't recall the suits, but there were two hearts. The turn card completed the heart flush, and the river was another heart. The pot was now around $450 and the player that hit the hearts went all in. I called and wond a huge pot. I don't think I have played 8-3 since and probably never again. Lightening doesn't strike twice in the same place.
